Breakthrough: ICC Champions Trophy Hybrid Model Finalized

ICC Champions Trophy

In a recent development made around the most anticipated tournament, BCCI has shown acceptance to the PCB’s conditions. There has been a major dispute between the two nations putting Champions Trophy 2025 into a challenging situation.

Ever since the rights to host the event were awarded to Pakistan, India was raising concerns about security and refusing to travel to the neighbouring country. As an outcome, ICC had proposed a hybrid model where matches requiring India’s participation could be played at a neutral location.

For quite a long time, PCB showed their resistance from accepting the hybrid model. They wanted a fair and equal solution. Recently, PCB gave up on their stance and showed agreement with the hybrid model, however, with the condition of stretching the similar model for upcoming events to be hosted in India.

While BCCI was not accepting the proposal initially, in a breakthrough – both the cricket boards have come to the final agreement. PCB and BCCI have accepted a hybrid model for the events to be hosted by either of the countries until 2027.

The matches requiring India’s participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 will be held in Dubai. However, a neutral venue for the matches of Pakistan during events hosted by India would be decided when the time is right.

With the issue being finally resolved, ICC was expected to hold a meeting this Saturday – aimed at releasing the Champions Trophy schedule.

But the meeting seems to have been postponed with the sources suggesting it would occur after the matters are discussed at an executive level.

While this delay puts the fate of Champions Trophy 2025 at a hanging thread yet again, we can only hope to see our favourite teams compete for the title with all their passion and cricketing spirit very soon.
